Horrendo Shoes

Hello. I found these shoes in an Off 5h Saks Outlet in Franklin Mills. They might be the worst shoes I've ever seen. They were made by Ann Demeulmeester. Part of the reason I'm posting this is because I pranced around in them for a few minutes and almost thought they were kind of awesome, until I realized I was wearing the sole of a pair of high heels with a leather foot hug laced onto them. Check those fuckers out.

That's all.

Hey Mary-Kate Olsen. I fucking love you.

Seriously. I love her. I don't usually like the pile a bunch of shit on and run around in New York at NYU in tights look, but this girl can pull it off. She is legitimately the only person who can carry off Balenciaga's fetish boots, and she can wear them with a pair of tights, a velour zip up, and Balenciaga's motorcycle bag (which I've had a boner for since forever--sadly they no longer make it in gunmetal, which was my preference). I've never met a plaid shirt I didn't like, nor have a met a girl who can wear a shirt as a dress, but MK over here rocks all of it. I think what I appreciate most is the complete lack of styling and the distinct impression that this is what she looks like. Not only is her casual stuff fantastic, and talk about high-low mixes, she also wears towering heels all day, every day, which I appreciate and makes me turn green with envy.

Another great reason to love the MK is her formal wear. Check it out up there. MK's Costume Institute Gala dresses manage to be both fashion forward and not ridiculous, while never looking over styled or campy. The black feather dress is by Lily et Cie cinched with an Ala corset belt, now popular with Our Lady of Awesome, Michelle Obama, who wears a studded Alaïa belt over most everything. Black dresses are pretty fantastic wherever you go, but my favorite MK Costume Institute Gala dress is this gold Diane von Furstenberg with Louboutin Pigalle shoes in gold. Again, the hair is undone, and she looks effortless. Not to mention her date for the evening was Mr. Louboutin himself. I hate you a little bit, Mary-Kate, but not enough not to love you. Know what I'm saying?

The Fug Girls over at gofugyourself.com think that MK has a bit of a creepy Russian doll/mail order bride deal going on, but I'm kind of into that myself. She carries off the Swiss Miss braids better than Sienna Miller, the hobo look better (and less calculatedly) than Nicole Richie, for which she deserves an award. Let's be biffs.

Love,
Julia

Stupid Dresses.

So Lauren has started posting and I thought I should get on the blog boat. I also love that she made a couple really awesome culturey-blog posts about avant garde film makers and I'm making a post about a kind of dress I hate that I have in fact tried on at TJMaxx. TJMaxx. Lauren is talking about Givenchy and I am talking about TJMaxx. Whatever I'm over it.

In any case, these dresses are all over the place though the one I'm posting is from shopcuffs.com. Thar it is.

As Lauren so astutely pointed out, pencil skirts are great. Not on me, per se but great none the less. Adding a pencil skirt to a flimsy top and expecting the proportions to stay right is a very hefty wish, and making that dress in a Large is equivalent to asking a girl between the sizes of 10 and 14 to load herself into some sausage casing.

Not awesome. So instead of trying on my pencil skirts of which I have many, we are going to Starbucks, just so that I can ensure that I won't look good in anything that draws attention to my midsection. Apple shape, you know. Seventeen magazine says I'm an apple shape. The most round.

New Look Baby

I've got the new look, baby, and it's driving me crazy.
